Computer Hangs at boot after Wifi card upgrade

    Hi All,

Recently i have upgraded my wifi card in my laptop to allow for the Intel Widi functionality that my tv has. prior to installing this my pc would boot in about 15 seconds as i've also recently installed a SSD.

However since installing this wifi card (Intel ac 7260) on windows 7 x64 i have encountered numerous problems. The first few reboots after installation were kind of slow and i thought this would be the computer installing files etc to deal with the new hardware however this is not the case.. Before the boot screen for windows appears theere will be a blinking white cursour in the top left hand of the screen which will eventually dissapear and then the boot screen will appear which is also painfully slow. i've upgraded to the latest drivers however this has not solved the problem if anything it's made it slower.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what i could do ?

I would first enter the BIOS Settings and see if the WiFi device is enabled (recognized).

If it is, then try disabling it in BIOS Settings and see if the boot/startup issue resolves itself with the card installed but disabled.

Then try physically uninstalling the card and see if the boot resolves.

You are testing to see if the card is installed correctly, or if the card may be faulty.
On thing I've noticed is that on some laptops the two wires that connect to the card are "keyed" so you can't (easily) switch them, but on others the two connectors are exactly the same. It does make a difference which way the wires go.

Went into the bios but couldn't see anything regarding the wifi card.. The weird thing is that sometimes it will boot up perfectly (like just now) and other times it will just go really, really slow and this is after wifi card has been installed. From looking in device manager everything seems fine so i'm really confused!!

Did you try all 3 tests mentioned above?
Did you double check the wire orientation?

Ill try physically uninstalling it tomorrow and see if that resolves the issue. The current orientation of the wires is working (like picking up wifi and not dropping connection etc..). Would you still suggest changing the orientation still to see if that resolves it ??

No. Just check to see if there is any indication that there is an orientation to the terminals (+ | -). Or try to recall how you determined which wire went where.

"Crossing" the wires could damage the module.
