    Separate HDD benefits?

Many PC gamers use another set of internal hard drive to install their games in. This is what gets me confused as to how it benefits? Recordings also are put in that same hard drive. So the in depth question is should games and recordings be installed on the same drive as the OS? And having a 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM, which drive should contain the games and which should hold files and the OS?

There is no benefit with spinning drives unless they are in some RAID setup. They may do it for having the added storage space.
I'd put the OS on the faster drive since it's where the system's control comes from. Further, I wouldn't even use a 5400 RPM drive, they are horribly slow.

With a SSD the story is different. Having only the OS and frequently used program and games on the SSD, with personal data and other games on a HDD works well and makes a System recovery with an image or clone much faster.
