How to rename my USB flash Drive

My USB flash drive appears under the most boring of titles: REMOVABLE DISK. Clicking on 'rename' has no effect.

What do I need to do to give it a name?

Plug it in and open Computer. Right click the USB's icon, click properties, open General tab. You can then type in a name you want, there's a limit of 15 or so characters. See my snip, then click apply, OK.

That will work, technically. Disk management will recognize it as changed but for some reason Computer doesn't. It will still be "Removable Disk" to Computer. I believe option two, changing the autorun file on the USB will change it so that Computer actually recognizes the name change.

Although it wouldn't work for me as I have autorun deleted off my USB's.

Option two has you create the autorun.inf yourself. It's very easy.

The way I showed you worked for me and the name shows in all PCs I plug into. The drive has no autorun.inf file in it.

Are you renaming a hard drive or USB?

    Here is how I tested.
First picture is of Computer and I: is named MOE, but doesn't show there. You can also see hard drives with their custom name showing in computer at the top.
Second picture is from Disk management. MOE is my USB drive which is named correctly.

Yeah mine is a USB Flash Memory stick. I have 14 of them all named as I showed. The custom name shows in DM and Computer.
