Windows 7: Asrock RAM Issues

17 May 2014   #21

Windows 7x64 Home Premium SP1

I built a low cost system for someone using an AsRock Z77M motherboard. I purchased some G.Skill Ram that was "Z77" compatible (2x4GB) and the supplier was adamant it should be fine yet the 2nd stick was not recognized. Luckily the supplier was local and convinced himself it wasn't compatible with the ASRock Z77M and replaced the Ram. When I used a 8G Kit 1600 G.Skill ARES as recommended by ASRock everything was fine.
My recommendation: If buying mail order buy Ram tested for your motherboard.

It might be the ram then like I thought.

Someone offering me to swap the boards since the on board audio is blown anyway for A 2011 msi x gaming board. What is the difference between ddr2 and ddr3? Will that effect gaming I mean with a geforce card.

DDR2 is an older technology and slower, but this article explains it better than I could.

Remember too if the RAM is called SODIMM it's for a laptop or ITX board. Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module.

ASRock A75 Pro4-M or Asrock B75 Pro3-M?
I used the A75 Pro4-M in my current build, but I'm building another for a friend. I'm not sure if I should go with the same board, or use the B75 Pro3-M this time. It's hard to find any reviews on either of these boards. I like the PCIE spacing on the A75 board, but I'd also like to try the...
