bigmck if you don't feel comfortable replacing the power supply by all means take it to a shop. Their is nothing wrong with doing that. Everybody on this forum doesn't build their own computers as I and many others do.
Let us know how everything comes out for you and what power supply is installed.
A couple years ago when i ordered the parts for a new PC, I had fully intended to put it together myself. I watched a couple Videos on it and was ready to go. After I got the parts and started thinking, "I chickened out". :) I took it to my PC shop and for $75 he did it for me.

I almost did the same thing. I had spent around $700 on my first rig and I was scared to touch it. So the parts sat there. After awhile I finally mustered up the courage and asked a friend to watch me as I built it and point out anything I did wrong. He only had to help me once, and once that was done I have been building ever since. I am on my second rig now, but I have built plenty for others. I would never go back to a retail pc. Unless I wanted a laptop or tablet.

In short: Do you have a tech savvy friend to help?

If not, take it to your shop guy :)

OH- and honestly $75 is not a bad price to build it. I charge $100 on top of the cost of parts when building a gaming rig. Typically I buy the parts for them, so I go online and get the best prices on stuff. Obviously a cheapo pc I only charge around $20-50

Other places in my area charge around $150 to build, sometimes $200 if water cooling is involved.

No, I am not asking about the 2.5 to 3.5. I have a 5.25 bay that I might want to use in the future. == Which reminds me of a story after seeing the picture of the 3.5 bracket. I just got a SSD this weekend in the mail. It came with the bracket. The screw holes on the bracket did not line up with SSD, even though both had the Kingston brand on them. It was not like a .25 inch off. It was an inch or more, strangest thing. I just put some Velcro on to hold the SSD.
This a really stupid question but we have all done things like this (with me, it's been fans lately ). Did you check to make sure you weren't putting the SSD in the bracket in backwards? No big deal though, Velcro works just fine.

I spent way more that $700 on my first (and current) rig. Imagine how terrified I was!

I had a lot of friends to help me...all of you here at Win 7 Forums! Believe me, it was comforting to know I could depend on you all to bail me out if I did something stupid (which I did a couple of times).

The SSD is the same length as the bracket. There was only one hole at the end of the bracket and the other was about 3/4 down. Either way I could only get one screw on it. Just one of those goofs in production. Maybe that is why it was on sale. :)

Very definitely could be. I got a bunch of 140mm filters for my new case for a song because they have an oddball mounting hole spacing.

Not all Corsair PSUs are good. Be sure to check the reviews before choosing one. Generally, the AX and HX series are good. I've read a lot of complaints about the RM series.
This is true and they are not all made by the same manufacturer which may explain why the differences and as you say the RM series seem to have a particularly bad feedback.
You hit the head on the nail (or something like that). Not all being made by the same manufacturer is exactly why there are differences.
Yep if anyone wants to check out who makes what this is it

PS not completely up to date but near enough
