Windows 7: SYS_FAN1 Too Loud and Fast

SYS_FAN1 Too Loud and Fast

I just bought a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 motherboard. Everything seems to be working fine except for one thing, SYS_FAN1. Its running on high constantly and is loud.

I set it to "Silent" in the BIOS and, when the PC starts/restarts, it is quiet. A few moments after Windows finishes booting, it kicks into high and stays there.

Are there Windows fan speed controls that I need to change? I tried Power Settings, but nothing there.

Any hints?

What fan do you have attached to the SYS_FAN1? ie a case fan, or the CPU

Did you install Easy Tune6? If so, you should be able to adjust the fan profiles in that app.

If you haven't, try installing it. Since it's quiet in the BIOS and gets noisy in Windows, it sounds like software is taking control of it.

The CPU is CPU_FAN1. This is SYS_FAN1, it has a case fan plugged in to it.

I know Windows is overriding the BIOS setting, I said that in my original post.

The case you are using is not in your specs.
What case and what case fan do you have?

A quality case fan should be able to run high speed without a lot of noise.
Yes high speed will be louder that a lower speed but it shouldn't be loud.
It really depends what ones ears consider loud.
The quality of the fan is normally the reason for excessive noise.
I have 11 case fans all running 100% and the system is not loud.

When you hear the fan spin up and run fast, open the Task Manager and go to the Performance Tab. Check to see if the processor load or RAM usage is unusually high.

Solved it by buying a new fan of a larger size. Noise gone.

Well done.
Their are many fans on the market. Could you let us know which fan you chose.
What fan you took out and the fan you replaced it with would be good information for others.

What case are you using??

Computer too fast: laptop fan blaringly loud, everyone leaves the room
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CS390C laptop, which I bought in August 2009. Since 2010, whenever the computer is hot, the fan roars violently about 45-50 seconds per minute. Women with loud-screaming baby twins ask me to keep it down. Everyone else leaves the room. I can't watch movies without subtitles. ...
