Should/can I upgrade to an SSD

I have HP desktop from 2009, and it's HD seems to be going. I want to get a new HD and do a clean OS reinstall.
My present HD is an SATA: WD Green WD10EADS Specs - CNET

I wanted to try to get an SSD and put a spinning drive in the second bay.

    My questions are:

    1. Can I put any old SATA SSD in there?
    2. Should I look for a 3.5" drive or get a 2.5" with adapter?
    3. What size of SSD would be recommended to hold OS + programs?

    Hello Vegas,

Q1) Yes, a SSD uses the same SATA connection.

Q2) SSDs are 2.5", so you'll need an adapter to work with your 3.5" drive bay.

Q3) It really depends on how much you plan on installing and saving to the SSD, but I'd say at least 128 GB is good since you could use the old HDD for a data/backup drive.

    Hope this helps, :)

Absolutely but do research the brands and make sure you get a decent capacity one anything less than 120GB fills rather quickly so 120GB minimum.
