As dlc41 stated in post #5.
Your clock going back to 2002 when the power is unplugged is usually a sign of the CMOS battery being bad.
Have you replace your battery and reset everything.
After A/C power failure Stay Off
    Time and date.

I turn off the power to my computer and everything hooked to them with a surge protector when ever my computers are shut down. If the cmos battery isn't good I will have the same problem you are having.

It takes 3 minutes and about $3.00 to take care of the battery problem.
I buy 3 batteries at a time. I have come across a bad new battery. Never hurts to have spares.

Let us know when this is done and the results.

Thank you all so much! I am happy to announce that I changed the battery yesterday, and since then, start-up has been back to normal. The keyboard and mouse activates on first boot, and the date is OK. This forum is awesome. All the answers seem to be here. Thank you all again.
