I've swapped out each ram card individually to no avail. I've exchanged psu's too. But I don't suspect that's the problem. I read into cmos batteries and I am beginning to think that perhaps it's the cause. Because both computers have them and if I leave either alone long enough they boot up longer without cutting to a black screen
Much like a remote control works for a brief moment after a day or so the batteries have died. I'm willing to test this because the batteries are cheap to replace. Only thing I'm curious about now is does it matter what cmos battery I replace it with? Like can I buy any random one?

No not a random one, that's silly. Take them out there will be a number on them. 99% are CR2032 and are less than $5 at Wal Mart. If in doubt, take them with you to the store.

Well I discovered while working on a separate project that it was the monitor to blame. For some reason the monitor will work fine for the first few moments but then stop. Turning off and on the computer resets this process. What leads me to believe this is that I used three separate computers to test this. So now that we've come to the conclusion that the monitor is where the problem lies, how do we fix the monitor? Such a strange problem.perhaps something inside the monitor is broken... Never opened one up before though. Had little reason to =p. Probably some silly problem

If you indeed can confirm the monitor is bad toss it out. The repair will cost more than a new one. I just had this issue, the monitor mainboard burnt out, it cost alone $258.

As far as I know they don't have something like a simple fuse to replace.
