Acer laptop keyboard not functioning properly

    Hi,
We have Windows 7 64 bit with an Acer older laptop.
We are not sure what we did but our keyboard has changed in that we cannot use Ctrl + Cto copy or Ctrl + V for paste and other functions. Also our mouse pad does not work anymore. We are using an external USB keyboard and it works fine with a USD wireless mouse and sometimes a USB wired mouse which work fine.
My question is what can we do to restore our laptop keyboard?
We do not have or original Windows 7 CD anymore.
We have tried to fix the mouse driver but I think I made it worse.
We have tried to update the HID keyboard device but Windows says it is up-to-date.
    Same with PS/2 keyboard device.
    Same with the mouse- up-to-date.
Could we hit some key combination that changed the keyboard settings?
We have looked in the Acer PDF but see not solutions.
    Thanks,
Chip MX (we are living in Mexico)

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums .. You could try to Install Acer Launch Manager ..

Acer LaunchManager provides Acer product owners with a simple, yet useful and easy to configure utility that servers one purpose, namely to assist you in mapping special buttons on your keyboard to certain functions.

The so-called ‘special’ buttons are those that are not included in a standard keyboard, such as multimedia keys or the ‘FN’ key on laptops and notebooks. What Acer LaunchManager actually does is customize the functions assigned to each key and thus create your own, personal keyboard configuration.

The main window of the application enables you to view the button configuration and proceed to changing the functionality of each key using the available options included in the drop-down menus.

The application also allows you to change the functions assigned to the ‘FN’ key, as it controls all the hot key combinations. Therefore, if you experience problems with getting key combinations to work properly, you should re-install Acer LaunchManager on your device.

One advantage that Acer LaunchManager brings is the user feedback to changes in volume, screen brightness levels and the Wi-Fi or the Bluetooth connection status.

Therefore, if you modify the audio volume or activate / disable the wireless connection of your laptop, you get a pop-up notification that displays the new changes. If this application is not working, the buttons are still usable, but no visual notification is displayed.

To sum up, Acer LaunchManager provides users of Acer labelled laptops or notebooks with a handy tool that enables them to control and configure the keyboard mapping. It can also prove useful in case one or more key combinations do not work as they should

Would need to know what Model Number you have .. The one in your System Specs is incomplete ..

It is quite possible the keyboard bit the dust. You could try uninstalling the keyboard and touch pad driver from device manager and reboot, see if reinstalling it resoles the issue. You stated you tried updating drivers but did not state you tried uninstalling. So try this first.

Acer is not exactly known to create good products. Most of there hardware is junk and dies quickly as it is cheaply made.

    Here it is:
    Model number:
    Acer V5-571-16605
    mfg 6/8/2012
    S/n NXM1JAA0042230E520200
This is not a broken keyboard. The computer still works just great and it has been toted all over.
Runs most of the time now, seldom shut down. It is our main computer and is used on our sail boat where we live. I would buy another Acer if we had too with Windows *8 and the detachable monitor. We are happy with this laptop. We just like to use the copy paste and other keyboard functions like that as short cuts on the laptop without having to cart around a keyboard. Also I do not care for the mouse pad on any laptop but would like it to work.

I tried the "On Screen Keyboard " and it works with Ctrl + C for copy.

I am now typing with the keyboard on the laptop. the left shift key is not working.
I just tried the shift key on the numeric pad side and it works but not the one on the left side.
Ctrl + S just prints a s on this post from the left side.
the ctrl on the right side of the keyboard works as it should for Ctrl + C but I think I would need to be left handed to use them:) all the time.

So we downloaded and installed The Launch Manager. However it does not ask about a program group or any location to find the app to run it.
We tried to run LManager.exe but it does not execute?
Is this a stupid question but how do I run the app?
    Thanks,
    Chip
Also it is the Fn key the Shift key and the Ctrl and Alt on the left side that does not work.

From what i can find out about this Version it runs from the boot up .. In previous Version there was an Option to Configure it .. In this one seems there is none .. If your Function Keys are not working then it is of no use ... I need to investigate a bit more maybe an older Version would work .. Will get back to you on that ....
