Computer not recognizing my hdd or dvd burner

    You could try clearing CMOS memory and try to reboot again. This will force the BIOS to re-evaluate hardware. If that doesn't work, you may have to take the PC (or just the drive) to a service center or friend and have them test the HDD. If the drive is good, at least you can recover data, but the controller is probably dead.

    so basically I am looking at 3 options replace the sata cable, buying a new PC.. or buying a new HDD if the sata cable works. correct? does the sata cable run off the same cable as the hdd?

    NVM i see what you are getting at.. replacing the sata cable will tell me if the sata controller is bad.

    Open your CPU case and keep your spy eye on its connection mechanism. I've my PC hard drive and DVD drive connected through different cables. Consider checking the same in your case and see if you would needed two different cables for that.

    yeah they are connected separately... Ok ill have to wait. to see what happens. Stores are closed as of right now. So I will have to get back to this thread. Thanks for the help. I will return back.

    Just a thought.
    Unhook you power and data cables from the DVD player and try to boot. The DVD might have a short in it discombobulating the signal to the Hard Drive.

    Another thing. Your screenshot says "Memory bank 1...Not installed". You could try swapping the first memory stick with the last and try a boot. Be careful of static electricity when you do this.
