Thanks Lava King and Andrew I shall give this a whirl and see what happens.
what version of android is on it jellybean and up use mtp and you need to have your phone set to mtp to make it show up also my two cents drop keys is garbage and you can manage it much better manually. When you plug in the phone on the notification pull down does it say your phone is set as an installer? like my pic below of my note 3.
Hi there
In addition to connecting a phone to your PC -- adequately described in the previous posts you might also be interested in these devices for Samsung phones for connecting to a large external TV.
Try one of these
Samsung AllShare Cast Wireless Hub HDTV Adapter EAD-T10JDEGSTA New Other | eBay
Works brilliantly -- note you need to have a decent WIFI speed though. So if you have a movie say on the micro sdHC card on the phone you can watch it on the BIG TV screen -- very useful if you are in a hotel say. Also useful for running Android apps on the "Big screen" too -- surfing / email etc without needing a computer. I'd advise getting a Blue tooth keyboard too if you are doing any of this.
You can also simply use a special type of USB==>HDMI adapter for most phones if you want to connect the phone directly to a TV -- note though you will need one with a power source -- driving a 60 inch TV from the phone's video card and playing a full 1080p HD movie on the TV rather drains the battery quickly if you don't have the phone plugged in to a power source.
For Both systems use a Blue tooth keyboard for more convenient navigation rather than the phone's touch screen.
For Samsung -- around 10 USD for the physical connectors.

Thanks jimbo have found the only way of downloading these pics is the micro SD in a USB adaptor and it is SLOW AS
If this is his phone I don't think it supports that Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 - Full phone specifications also if he has Samsung smart TV like mine then that is built into it, I just share my Note 3 that way to mine I also removed the all share module as its quite big in filesize.
Not trying to confuse the issue, but another alternative is to transfer your pictures to the PC via BlueTooth. Yeah, it's even "slower as" but it's nearly painless once it's set up.
I set the PC to always accept a connection from my phone (and only that specific device) so all I have to do is hit "Share" on the phone, select a destination, and Bob's your uncle. Multiple photos will take a while to transfer but you can find some way to occupy yourself while the process takes place (something shiny always works for me).
If your PC doesn't have Bluetooth, the inexpensive dongles work just fine.

airdroid will also work if you have wifi. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...airdroid&hl=en
is the phone locked when its connected!?
with my galaxy s4 if I connect it with the screen locked nothing happens, as soon as I unlock it it shows up as a mass storage device.
either that or try another cable. im on my 4th usb cable for mine! they charges the phone but don't allow data transfer
John, I have a Galaxy S4, when I tried to use the charging cable that came with the phone and wall charger, the computer wouldn't even recognize it. I had a heavier duty cable and it shows up fine now, just as a CD drive. But that is no real problem as I can go in and swap files, pictures and most anything else. I don't have any other program with it as I prefer to do it 'the old fashioned' way. You can browse files on the phone and SD card.
Ok that is the model I have but I don't have Google or any apps as they cost an arm and a leg out here. Besides I am not real interested in playing stuff on the phone there is always something to do in or around the house except when I can get away from it and jump on the laptop.
Steve you mentioned heavy duty cable - is that just a different hook up to the charger cable which I have been trying??. The downloading of photos via the mini card / USB was taking forever to transfer - it was only up to 6% after an hour and probably needs all night at that rate.
The Blutooth I shall have to get Lynne to look at that as he is better at using these things than I am.
