keyboard and mouse stop working at login screen

This just started (I.e. used to work fine) and nothing new has been installed. Keyboard works if I do startup with F12 (I can select screen options with it), but when it gets to startup screen, neither keyboard nor mouse function. Can't get into computer to check or alter any settings, as all is frozen. Tried rebooting, unplugging all peripherals and USB thumbdrives, ran complete system diagnostics, etc. but no luck. Help please!I

    Welcome to the forum!

Turn on your computer and then hammer the F8 key. Boot into safe mode. The from there click start, accessories, system tools, system restore.

Then restore the computer back to a point where it last worked.

Thnx for quick response, but doesn't work. Once it boots up, keyboard locked, so can never get to "start, etc". Did a system restore, successfully, but didn't help. Same for "startup repair". Must be in Microsoft software, as keyboard and mouse work in Bios. Other ideas? Really appreciate help!

Yes they should work before login screen. If they only work in bios; then there is something up with the driver(s). I would uninstall the keyboard and mouse once in windows and then reboot and let windows re-detect them and reinstall the software for them. Try this out if you can

Matts - would love to try that, but can never get into Windows to uninstall, unless there's a trick to get thru the backdoor.
