Issue with DVD drives loading disks normally

I have an issue with both DVD drives on my system (one drive I just installed - to eliminate the factor of it being a hardware issue with the other drive). When I boot up with an audio CD, data CD or DVD, or video DVD in either drive, it mounts as it should. The title of the disk is displayed, the icon shows the type of disk, and when "Open" is selected the disk opens to access the files. But after the disk is ejected and any disk is loaded, only the generic CD-ROM or DVD-ROM icon is displayed, and when "Open" is selected, "Insert a disc" is displayed and the disk is ejected. The only way the disk loads normally again is booting with the disk in the drive. This affects both drives, so it would seem likely to be system and not hardware related. Any assistance appreciated.

    Welcome to SevenForums,

It could be a problem with the Lower Filter and Upper filter interacting.

You might want to follow this Microsoft Kb article: The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that is running Windows Vista

and here too on the Microsoft Community: missing upper/lower filters registry cd/DVD
