Best factor for determining the bettering of CPU

Hi all,

First of all, if my English is not good please pardon me.

Now the problem; when comparing many CPUs with each other, which factor is the best one? For example, there are many various types, like, core to due, dual core, pentium, core ix, and many many other flavors.
When I'm at this bad situation I save myself by choosing the best one by their HZ unit .
For example, when there are many varous CPUs I say most powerful one is that has bigger frequency unit. 2.66GHZ<2.88GHZ.
Is it a true solution?

Is it a true solution?

All else being equal, the CPU with the highest clock rate will be the fastest. But all else is rarely equal. There are many factors that effect CPU performance, clock speed being only one. These include the number of cores and the size and types of the Level 1 and Level 2 caches. These are not simple things and there is no single number to compare.

In the latter years of the 20th century the clock speed of CPUs rose dramatically, and performance along with it. But then it ran into the laws of physics and clock speeds improved but little. Many modern CPUs have much higher performance than those of bygone years, even when the clock speed is lower.

There are no simple answers to your question.

OK & thank you Miller.
So if you want to mention most important factors for comparing CPUs' performance (which is higher speed), what ones do you say please?

It's complicated. There are many variables. Each new generation of Intel CPUs does more work for a given clock speed than the previous generation.

Look at benchmarks such as Passmark for a rough idea of CPU performance.

PassMark Software - PC Benchmark and Test Software

And the best CPU for a given task depends on the nature of the task and the applications used to accomplish the task.

I'm shopping for a battery backup UPS for my PC. My current pick is an APC BE550G. Unfortunately, I've hit a snag- something about "approximation of a sine wave" and "pure sine wave". In other words, if the UPS switches over on approximation and my PC requires pure, the battery backup won't work...
