keyboard works for one user but not for another

    Weird but true.

When I sign in as the administrator, I can type my password but that's all. Can't type on a website, in a document not even on a "sticky note". Cannot delete anything either. It's like the keyboard has been disconnected.

In order to try to get help on this site, I had to sign in as a user in my wife's name and I can type perfectly well here.

Just ran Malwearbytes and all is well.

Any ideas how to fix this problem? It's a new laptop, 2 weeks old.

    Thanks you

Hi there ... Have you checked that the Filter Keys are unticked .... Control Panel>Accessibility Settings ...

    Maxie, you fixed it!

    Maxie,

"Control Panel>Accessibility Settings ..." Couldn't find that but I did hunt around and went to:

Control Panel > Ease Of Access > Ease Of Access Center

Make the keyboard easier easier to use

    2 boxes were checked:
Turn on Toggle Keys by holding down the NUM LOCK key for 5 seconds
Ignore or slow down brief or repeated keystrokes and adjust keyboard repeat rates

    ------------------------

I know I didn't check these boxes but I think I know the culprits. You see, I have several cats. To get my attention, they could sit by my desk chair and "Meow" or reach up and touch my leg with their paw or even jump up on my lap. But oh, no, they prefer to jump up on the desk and walk on my keyboard. Sometimes continuing to walk across it, once in awhile taking time to sit down and take a much needed rest from all of the naps they take all day. But their favorite activity while on the keyboard is when they do their rendition of "Cats Doing The River Dance". I'm thinking that is just their way to distract me while they are actually changing settings on my computer.

I "unchecked" the 2 boxes and everything is back to normal. (Which means that when that fact gets around my 'cat community', THEY'LL BE BACK!)

Thank you for your help. Pour yourself a pint of Guinness, you deserve it.
