Will this processor work with my motherboard?

Hi, I just wanted to know if the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz will work with my GIGABYTE GA-M78SM-S2H motherboard (That is what the manual says). I saw in a review that it is AM2+ compatible and my mobo manual says it is AM2/AM2+, is this true?

And also if I will need a fan or the stock one will work fine.

First off let me say that a question of this kind can easily be solved by visiting Gigabytes website, they like most major mobo manufacturers have great online support. Here is the CPU Support list for your mobo: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2817

The answer is No, your mobo does not support that CPU, it will take the Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHz with BIOS revision 3.1.

Do you need a fan? Im unfamiliar with the AMD Phenoms and their stock fan, but I never stick with the stocker, as I'm an overclocker!

Hey... Im also a poet and didnt know it! LOL!

Okay, thanks for the answer. Can you recommend a good cheap motherboard? Preferably Gigabyte.

And also if you could, could you tell me why it won't work? I'm just curious. On the website you gave me it says it has AM3 support.

If you look at the far right column it says N/A (map at top tells you NA means Not Supported) next to the CPU you want.

There are many, and you could have used the page I sent you to find out here: GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - CPU Support List

I'd recommend this board for you (I am also a gigabyte fan) it has 4 out of 5 eggs on Newegg reviews and has a AMD 785G chipset which is a lot better then a nForce 8200. I always say AMD chips work best with AMD chipsets. Also 4 ram slots instead of 2 and support from DDR2 667 to 1066 standard along with OC options. The onboard video is a HD4200 which is really nice if you don't have a separate video card.
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

EDIT* and most of all it will support a 955 Black edition!

Thanks for all your replies, but my dad got an email from zipzoomfly.com on a halloween special, and I am hoping I can get it for christmas. It is pretty expensive though, so If I can't get it I will look into your suggestions.

Here it is if you wanna look at it or talk about it :P

    Evil:

Who the heck is ECS the maker of that mobo? I would stick with name brand stuff you can trust, like Gigabyte, Asus, EVGA, MSI, etc. Especially if you are going to build yourself. Since you said you are asking your Dad to get it for Christmas, I am assuming you are young and new to PC building. So slow down and dont go for the 1st deal you see!

All I can say is Research, Research, Research!!! Do your homework, look to forums like this and ones that specialize in gaming or overclocking, or whatever you are into and seek the advice of others... it will pay off in the long run!

Another point... you seem to really want that Phenom 3.2GHz CPU... your current mobo will support the 3.0GHz Phenom and I doubt you'd ever notice the difference sittin at keyboard! Save you $$$!

Also never done business with zipzoomfly, but many here love and buy from newegg.com keep an eye there also!

My dad has bought from zipzoomfly.com and everything has worked fine.

is there a big difference from DDR2 800mhz and DDR3 1600? If there is I may get that processor and ram, but we will see.
