Best inexpensive SATA/IDE internal to USB adapter device?

...to allow me to view internal hard drives on my laptop

I bought awhile back a sata/ide to USB adapter. It seems to be a pain to get drives to show up in explorer a lot of the time, it doesn't simply show up right away, so I start replugging things trying to get the particular drive to show up. Is there some item out there (inexpensive) that will allow me to connect 3.5 and 2.5 inch internal drives via USB to my laptop that isn't as bad as the adapter I use?
