Sony VAIO (Model PCG-7184L). Crack it open or fix it up.. or what?

I have an older Sony VAIO that I purchased a few years back and have not turned on in a long time - do not know where the charger is. I have a new laptop with a crappier processor but we make it work. The Sony's wifi capabilities would not work near the end of my usage of it. I like to take things apart and salvage the parts if possible and use with my desktop etc. I had a newer Samsung laptop which I took apart and got the hard drive out of. So, should I just do the same with this thing? I don't like clutter and things just laying around I want to put it to use or rip her open. Any ideas / suggestions? I had thought about trying the server thing (have read cool things about media servers etc) but being that the wifi did not function the last several times I used it, this does not seem to be the best idea..

    Thank you!
    Any help is appreciated!

Yep Jeremy I would just salvage the hard drive (you have) the optical drive and the RAM. If you felt like it why not the CPU cooling system etc :)

Depending on the age anything easily removable could be sold off.
