    Windows Not Booting

Well, I tried to install a new OS to dual boot. Now every time I reach the boot screen where it allows me to pick the system, I pick Windows Seven, and it says that Windows could not start up due to a recent hardware or software change. It says that to fix the problem I have to insert the boot disk, pick the language and repair. I didn't have the disk (since I downloaded it online), so got an ISO file and burnt the image. Now I'm trying to repair Seven; however, its not working. I am selecting the 'Start Up Repair' option but it says it can't fix the problem. And when it asks me to pick a Windows partition to repair, mine doesn't show up, so it tell me to 'load drivers.' I have no idea what this means.

Anyone mind helping? I prefer being able to get whatever driver it wants so I can fix the issue. But if all else fails, I may just do a clean install of Windows, but I want to know whether installing it fresh will actually let me use the partition.

In the command promt of the repair console of windows 7 enter

    sfc /scannow

    or

    bootrec.exe/fixboot

    or

    bootrec.exe/fixmbr

If that doesnt work run the memory hardware diagnostics (last option on that list i think)

It should be able to see your OS then, then use start-up repair.

If that fails,i personally would do a clean install.

    Try these :

    Startup Repair

    System Restore

    Hi,
He cannot use start up repair (i would suggest using memory hardware diagnostics to get it to recognize your os)

And he only just installed so system restore would not work...i think?
It hasnt had a clean boot yet so if if he restored (not sure if it makes a restore point until its installed fully?) it would restore to a broken boot file.

It won't let me restore period. It states that I haven't selected a Windows partition to restore, and I can't select a partition because they don't show up. I'll try and run the memory diagnostics test. Do you think if I clean install, I'd be able to access the partition?

I would think so yes,do the hardware memory test first,it fixes most hardware memory issues and allows me to see my partition.

By the way,to run the commands, click under your OS on the repair panel,or where it should be (blank space) and press next. Then click command promt.

To do a fresh install via partition wizard.
If you can, download the partition wizard boot disc (bottom option) Free Download Partition Wizard on a different pc if available and burn it,then boot up your pc with the PW disc in the cd drive.

Boot from partition wizard>put numpad on>type "1" then enter>click ok on the warning>select the partion that your win7 is on and click format as NTFS>click apply>right click>modify>set as primary>click apply>right click>set as active>click apply>close and put Win7 disc in>reboot>follow the install instructions on the win7 disc.
