WD Sata 160gb HD missing 11Gb!

Where did the 11 gb go?

I had to remove a WD Sata 160 gb sata drive(WD1600BEVT-2) from a laptop to scan it for virii and malware! this lenovo g530 laptop would not even boot from the hard drive! (see pic)

Anyhow I checked the drives with Ontrack Easy Recovery and it reported the drives as 149.05 Gb! where did the other 11gb go? (see pics)

I then used LLF to do a low level format and LLF reported it as as 160.04gb! the actual size of the drive! (see pic)

I then used my favorite reformat, wipe all partition, software Linux Gpart and Gpart reported this WD Sata drive as 149.05gb! Where did the other 11gb go?

Any thoughts suggestions? Did a mystery virus delete this 11gb or mark it as bad? I'm open to any suggestions!

Hard drive manufacturers designate the size of a hard drive in decimal terms 160GB but the operating system sees it in binary terms 149 GB. You are not missing any space.

    See this
Drive displays a smaller capacity than the indicated size on the drive label
