Sleep mode and scheduled events.

Don't know if this is the best place for this question. Please direct me if in error.

Just wondering what happens when a hard drive is sleeping when a scheduled event is to take place. For example, a backup or a defrag?

If it is asleep, perhaps it can be woken up. Don't know. Just wondering what the issues are.

Usually an event will "wake up" your system. Thats my experience anyway.

Well I ran a test the other night, and unless I set it up wrong, it didn't wake up my hard drive. I have an internal C drive on my laptop and an External USB drive.

Win 7 is new to me however, so it is possible it was not a valid test. The test I did had to do with a scheduled Defrag on the External drive.

Try running the test on an internal one, as the USB one doesnt really go into sleep mode.

What lack of events determine when sleep mode initiates?
In control panel/power options you can set sleep mode to occur for both the display and the hard disk. I've set both of these to sleep after 20 minutes. Is it just pressing a keyboard key or moving the mouse or pressing a mouse button that triggers a reset of the countdown clock for sleep...

Basic Question about Scheduled Events
