    Why my portable hdd does not work on desktop but works on laptop?


    Hi,
    i am having troble in connecting my portable hard disk to my desktop but it is working fine on my laptop.....
    Please help.

    Plug in your portable external drive to your desktop and post a screenshot of Windows Disk Management.

    Hi and welcome to sevenforums. if you haven't yet tried then try to connect it to one of the USB ports at the back of the computer not the front ones

    I have connected this hdd in every ports available in my desktop.
    It doset even shows up on diskmangement or anywhere.
    But when i connect to a laptop it works perfectly..

    If with the same cable, it works on your laptop, then it is not a problem with the cable.

    Do other external drives show up on your desktop?

    also I have connected this to my cousins desktop running xp and it dosent show up

    I think it is the problem with the cable because it cannot draw enough power from this usb..
      My Computer
