    External Hard drive problems D:

Hey everyone, I have a WD 320gb external hard drive (WD3200E035-00) and when ever I plug it into my computer it freezes... can you please suggest me all the things I should check to find what is causing this? Thanks.

    Hello Smile,

You might check to see if you have a option in your antivirus program's settings to see if you may have an option to scan USB, external, or removable devices when connected enabled. If so, this may cause your computer to temporarily freeze up like this since the external drive is being scanned. Disable or turn off that option to see if that may help.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

I have AVG 9.0 Full edition, could you give me a more specific place to search within that anti virus on how to turn that off? Also the hard drive does work on other computers.

Turned off firewall and anti-root-kit with no avail.

my fiance had this issue also, everytime i would plug it into my pc, my pc would freeze. so what i did was, plug it into a pc that wouldnt freeze (at my job), copy all the contents to my pc, and format the hd. then copy everything back. this worked for me.

I'm not familiar with AVG's settings, but you will just need to dig around in the scan settings to see if there may be one to scan USB or external drives when connected and disabled it.

I have the very same unit and had to try 2 computers before I was able to do a NTFS format.
Since then , touch wood, it has worked perfectly except it will NOT remember its assigned by me drive letter.
