SILENT BASE 800 | SILVER be quiet! Silent PSU & Cooling for your PC
Pros and Cons (based on my opinion - for whatever that is worth)
Pros
Washable filters,
Large 140mm fans (see cons),
I/O ports and buttons on top (see cons),
Good cable management,
Excellent noise suppression (see cons)
Cons
Large fans are behind solid (not mesh) front cover,
Width with attached legs is very wide (266mm/10.47 inches) - barely fits my desk's computer slot, leaving no room for side ventilation - important since the side panels have essential vents. It is pretty tall for a mid-tower too,
Noise suppression results in less air flow, hampering heat extraction even with great fan support,
Pricy,
I/O ports and buttons are great if your case will sit on or near the floor, but here they extend well beyond the front so if case is under a desktop, they maybe hard to see and reach.
A good case and quality PSU form the foundation for a great computer for years to come. But a case really needs to be functional before pretty. After all, it should not distract you from paying attention to what's on your monitor(s). That is a definitely a good case, but it is huge for a mid-tower.
I recommend you read some professional reviews.
Yep I will when I get around to it - problems at the moment with the large machine I agree the thing has it's faults but when you put it up against some of the crap that is on offer for that sort of money it is reasonable I thought.
The one thing I didn't like was the ports on top - I think dust
Looks like a quality case and exceptionally clean looking. When you say offered is this a gift or a purchase and is quiet ultimately what you want.....whats the goal of a new case?
No Linne I am sorry it was in the context of a new product they have just got into the store
I was or am looking round for a case to build for my partner and her two grandsons not anything exotic and really not that big. If it were for me I still love the Coolermaster HAF XM.
What about you would you have that one - the Be Quiet one?
Ports on top are no problem for dust any more than any other port because the interior fans will draw dust in through them anyway.
Yep you are right but I am just thinking of the forces of gravity when the machine is just idle - if you lived where I do you would soon become very aware of how much dust there is in the atmosphere
Absolutely nothing more annoying to me anyway than background noise when watching movies etc
Plus I guess it can be put in a well vented cupboard that would cut down the noise and the dust even further.
I guess the bottom line is no case is going to be perfect even the one I like the most it has its drawbacks for example removing the right hand side panel is still the old fashioned screw on and slide off where the left one is a pull up clip and the side just lifts off takes all of two seconds.
Silent PC's can also be had by building in overkill. Large PSU's that can put out great power and not break a sweat and even spin a cooling fan up, silent case fans slowed to sub 1000 rpm's and temp. controlled. Air cooled CPU's again with large fins and slowed fans to sub audible levels. Then well constructed case with no vibrating parts and if needed sound deadening materials.
