Hi welcome to the forum

It sound like the hard drive has failed. you can try running the manufacture hard drive diagnostic tool on it to confirm. Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Hello fejiro!

I am sorry to hear you're having trouble with your WD external drive!
Showing as Unknown, probably also Unallocated in Disk Management, having the black strip, it means that the hard drive doesn't have a formatted partition(s). The error you're receiving also confirms it. This means the drive has probably lost it's partition(s) and now the system can't recognize the device or any information on it.
Have you used the drive on another machine like a Mac? Have you tried to reformat it or has it experienced anything unusual or sudden?
If you have any valuable information on the drive don't play with the options and don't reformat it!
Do as @oscer1 has suggested and use the WD DLG software to make both Quick and Extended tests. Post the results here.

Good luck!

Deleting files on DVD Writable
Does anybody knows how to "delete" unwanted files on DVD Writable disks. Do I need another piece of software to do that or WIN 7 can do it. Today, I took out an old DVD disk that had files written on it previously by NERO in XP, and added files to it. That was OK. But then, I need to replace...

Error: partition not found
Yeah so essentially what happened: Friend convinced me to install Ubuntu. Gave it a partition. Got bored of it so I decided to format the partition. Formatted it as fat 32 (to my knowledge this is what I was meant to do).
