External IDE HDD not recognised by OS.

I have an old IDE 100gb HDD which was installed in an external enclosure. Everything was fine till I cloned the OS from a new SSD to it for backup using the EaseUS Todo Backup Free 7.5 programe. When complete the following messages showed. "Failed-Partition Clone-)x1760E077"; Partition Clone Failed; Failed to write sector.

Now my computer does not recognise the external HDD, and shows it as an IDE device. How can I get the HDD recognised so that I can reformat the HDD.

My computer OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Does it show in Disk Management? If yes, you can try assigning a drive letter. If that doesn't work, use the diskpart command from a Elevated Command Prompt to set it up again (maybe).

    diskpart
    list disk
select disk # (# is the number of the 100GB external drive)
    clean
    exit

Note: Make absolutely sure you have selected the right disk before using clean.

If that works, assign a drive letter in Disk Management then quick format it.

Thanks Ztruker, Disk Management worked a treat. I assigned a drive letter, and did a quick format on the disk
