Win 7x64 can't run device troubleshooter

I think this problem possibly only began after a recent Win 7 update, but not sure. I've always had to run the Troubleshooter for certain devices (mob phone, kindle, camera etc) since upgrading to the x64 version for whatever reason, & this has persisted despite a reinstall recently.

But a problem has just arisen in the past week where I can no longer run the TS - on clicking it, it now wants to open up something called "msdt.exe" which I've never had to agree to previously (to my knowledge). Clicking yes to that then just throws up a box stating: "A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting". I've cleaned the registry with Glary to no avail as some search results online said that it might be down to a fixable registry key, but that didn't work. Rebooting hasn't made any difference either.

The specific error code is: 0x800706F7 . Again, online searches didn't help me much as most results related to different problems to mine.

Anyone any knowledge or wisdom to share on how to overcome this as I can't access my devices otherwise .

    Thanks

A recent Windows update, KB3004394 has caused many such issues .

    Uninstall the update

    While in Windows Update
Click on View Update History and then Installed Updates. Go down the list to KB3004394 , right click on it and Uninstall.

Microsoft has pulled this update for now.

Thanks SO much for that info - doubt I'd have found it anywhere easy on my own, so you've saved me hours of stressing over it. Appreciate your time & support on the site :)
