    New W7-64 install does not recognize all USB devices


    This is quite an interesting problem. I just re-installed Win7 on a new SSD and some of my USB sticks are not recognized. When I stick them in, I hear the sound that Windows makes that says I have inserted a USB device. However, there is no sign of the device in either Win Explorer or Disk Manager. I have some USB sticks that work just fine. In addition, I have a second SSD that has my old Win7 installation. That is, I have two SSD drives - the old install and the brand new install. When I boot into the old one, all my USB sticks work just fine. They also work just fine in my wife's laptop.

    I have re-installed the USB drivers, but no change. I looked at device manager and there are 30 or 40 lines with a yellow ! They are under the heading: Other Devices and each line says, "Base System Device".
    I uninstalled each one, rebooted, and they all came back. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my problem, but I assume that it does - I'm just not sure how to fix this.

    The only thing i can think of at the moment that comes to mind is checking to make sure all of the cables are firmly connected and pushed in. One thing you could try is going to your motherboard or computer manufacturers support site and checking for and downloading the chipset drivers. Doing that hopefully will get them to detect properly. Even if some work but some dont; trying to reinstall the chipset drivers might fix the issue so i would give that a shot. If there is still a issue post back.

    Here is what I have tried so far:
    1) Boot into Parted Magic. Format "bad" USB stick into exFAT. Reboot into new W7 - Not recognized.
    2) Boot into old W7 - recognized OK. Format into FAT32 using Long format. Recognized OK (in old W7)
    3) Reboot into NEW W7 - not recognized.
    4) Re-install ver 9.5 chipset - error message: system does not meet minimum requirements
    5) Re-install ver 9.2 chipset - Install was OK, USB still not recognized after reboot. Device manager errors are no longer there.
    6) I have 7 USB sticks. I checked all of them and 2 have this "unrecognized" behavior, the others are working just fine.
