disk structure is curropted or unreadable

My post is related to this thread.
    I need help!
Having same problem where the solution stated doesn't really works.
The thing is that i cancelled a scan and interrupted it in between (esset nod 32) and since then I'm not able to open my drives, giving the above error.
Just canceling or interruption with a scan can't take out my 400gb of data off my hands.
I have registered just so because you guys are the only one's having the fix. But I don't want to go through all that just because I know my hard drive isn't dead or anything it was working fine and I decided to scan it and then canceled it as well and then I'm not able to open any drive.
    Kindly help.

Cancelling a virus scan alone should not cause boot failure. Did you suspect you had a virus or malware?

You aren't clear if you can boot into Windows or not. If not: run Startup Repair (you may have to run it 3 times) from your Windows install disk and report back. If in you can boot into Windows: run Chkdsk from the command prompt and report back.

    Hi stylazation ,

edit: This is an old thread, you will get better support if you open a thread for the issue on your machine.
Thanks for creating a new thread!

Data recovery can be a follow the instructions here..., but if you are not familiar with the process or the tools, it is better to have a guide helping you.

Please open a new thread and a member will begin troubleshooting with you. It is important to provide feedback (post screen shots)so members see what you see. It is extremely difficult to use only words to describe the drive configuration and the status of a step in the process.

The first two screen shots members need to see are:
    1. Disk management, see: Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image
    2. Partition Wizard(PW), initial screen / main screen
Download the free Home Edition: Free download Magic Partition Manager Software, partition magic alternative, free partition magic, partition magic Windows 7 and server partition software - Partition Wizard Online
For a quick test, you can use the Windows version ... sometimes the Bootable CD gives you better results since Windows Drivers / Services are not accessing the drive.

Post those in your new thread (see: Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

Try not to assume anything: Just canceling or interruption with a scan can't take out my 400gb of data off my hands. An abnormal end MIGHT cause the drive to appear as undetected/unreadable. All it takes is one bit flipped the wrong way - in most cases the data is still there, but the OS doesn't know how to access it.

The interesting thing about your description is that you say you cannot access / read ANY drive. This indicates to me that ESET 'locks' the drive(s) while it scans - I don't know this for certain, just a best guess.

There are other items members might want to see (event logs, disk diagnostics, etc), but start the ball rolling with a new thread and the two screen shots I requested.

    Thanks

    Alright.
so the thing is that the drive that stopped working on me is that i use as external hard drive and that is from my old laptop
it has all my backups and data the drive is more then gold to me. It has all my academic scans my psd files my movies and everything.
i have been having the problem since last week when i canceled a on running scan of drive I: and then it stopped working on me but other drives like J: and K: were accessible and i didn't bother because most of my files were in J: and K: where as I: only had the windows files of the old laptop. Still i kept on looking for fixes for the I: that actually stopped working at the first place and couldn't find any fix. Then it happened with my other two Partitions J: and K: last night and i was in a hurry so i cancelled the on going eset nod 32 security scan and since then i am not able to access these partitions having the above mentioned error "Disk structure is corrupted or unreadable".
I am pretty much sure that it has to do with ESET nod32 security and nothing else because i know that when the drives stopped working and that was when i canceled an ongoing scan and pretty much sure that ESET locked the drives.
Another thing, since past week when i had the first partition I: locked up, it couldn't eject the mass storage as well. giving an error that stated "Windows cant stop your 'Generic volume' device because a program is still using it. Close any programs that might be using the device, and then try again later. And all i had to do was to shut down computer totally to eject/turn off hard-drive. I never pulled out external hard drives or USB devices without ejecting them. Sill having the error while the hard drive is connected for the screen shots required.
attaching print screens as requested by respected member. looking for a fix where i don't loose my files and everything.

    Thanks for the screenshots.

Try running Partition Recovery in Partition Wizard. See the Minitool PW instructions here: How to Make Partition Recovery | MiniTool Partition Wizard Tutorial

With luck the quickscan option will find and correct the partition table, it might require a Full scan or the MBR might need to be rebuilt.

Start with the Quick scan as described on the PW webpage.

You might not be sure what to select at Step 5 - post a screen shot of the partitions found in the scan and let a member help you.

Only run the quickscan - don't take any further action unless a SF member provides additional PW support or offers another suggestion. Data recovery requires patience - haste will make the recovery more difficult or impossible. Take your time and follow the instructions to the letter ... ask questions if you're not sure.

We're all volunteer our time, so it might be a while before we get back to your thread. There are a number of folks well versed on the subject and they will be able to help when I'm unavailable.

    Hi,
I know you tagged on to an old thread, and then came here. I didn't want to get into this since I knew I won't be able to follow it up due to various reasons and was relieved when Slarty came in.

I won't be able to follow this still and so will only give some broad directions so that Slarty can carry forward or may be even Anshad Edavana if he is watching this thread.

    1. Your Partition Wizard screenshot @ post #4 shows all the partitions intact. And so no need for Quick Scan or Full scan. That'sn't going to help in anyway.

    2. I don't know anything about eset nod 32 and whether stopping the scan could result in filesystem/file corruption. But there is definitely something odd when you say that once you plugin your external drive it gets busy and you are unable to safely remove it. May be it is worthwhile to find out what is keeping it busy.

    3. Given the above, it will be worthwhile if you connect this external drive to another PC and see how it behaves and how it looks like in Windows Disk Management.( Everyone here will appreciate if you can use Windows own snipping tool for the screenshots and upload it to Seven Forum servers.)

    4. Now since the partitions are visible in Partition Wizard, I shall take a leaf out of Kaktussoft's book of ideas :), and try Partition Copy with the Partition Wizard. Have another external drive formatted and empty. Select one partition say J: in PW and copy that partition to the other external drive. (Do this copy process on the other PC and not in your PC which locks your problem external drive.) Check whether you can read the copied files. If successful copy the other partition too. I think when Slarty wakes up, he shall be able to help you if needed.

Thanks for looking into the matter.

About 3rd point connecting it to other PC.
It detects the hard drive but in above mentioned way giving "can not access or path isn't correct" error.

About 4th point I don't have a secondary external hard drive right now and will be glad if some other fixes are mentioned regarding the current situation.

    Looking forward to it.
