HP LaserJet 1012 - cannot cancel-print. No icon in systray. ETC.

Hi, I went thru days of attempting to install my HP Laserjet 1012 printer.
The printer's installationl CD did not work, nor did various permutations of attempting downloads from HP.

Finally I got it cracking but only partially.
I.E. the 1012 printer displays among devices/printers with green checkmark.
...but - web pages had not been printing.

I got that fixed partially via Firefox's File/Print (then changing dropdown to point to 1012 vs. onenote2007)

    But some glitches still remain:

    (1) its still not printing photo's via Win-photo-printer. (Attempting to add local printer, and then install, failed to work)

    (2) printer icon does not display in systray AND no way to cancel (or pause) print if I realized too late that I had sent 5 pages to print instead of just one.

Lemmie recommend two utility that I use; such will kill almost any type ofc hanging or ChangedMyMind printing process.
clean_print-spool.exe and StalledPrinterRepair.exe -- I don't remember where I got them. If the StalledPrinterRepair [use in full-screen mode] cannot bounce the job out, then try the clean_print-spool.exe [it is DOS-based, it will ask for a "Y" then it does its thing]. Put these gizmos into your favorite misc utilities directory, then create shortcuts, place shortcuts wherever you deem best.

One last thing, it might be necessary to turn off/turn on/turn off/turn on printer rapidly repeatedly a few times to clean out its memory of the print jobs. then you fish out the paper from within its rolls. The above utilities clean out windows memory, spool memory, but not the printer's memory.

how would that help my situation?

After all, its not as if I even have a printer-icon displayed on systray.

Also - how would it help for Win-photo not printing?

I need a response which is to-the-point of my specific situation.

    please go to:
    1 click on "Start"
2 click on "devises and printers"
3 right click on you printer (LJ-1012)
    4 select "set as default"
