    What comes to mind are:

    1. Verify good batteries.
    2. Install dongle in USB 2.0
    3. Use a different surface to move the mouse on.
    4. Verify the proper drivers are installed.
    5. Try another mouse and see if the problem is still there.
    6. Try a different USB port.
    Note:
The mouse should not be jittery even with Microsoft generic drivers.

    Check the following;
To check for device problems in Device Manager

    1. Click the "Start" orb (Windows Flag).
    2. Enter Device Manager in the search box, and tap or click Device Manager. You might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.
    3. Double-tap or double-click the appropriate device category to expand it. For example, a USB flash drive would be under Disc drives.
If your device has a yellow icon next to it , Windows identified a problem with it.
    4. Press and hold or right-click your USB device, and the tap or click Properties.
    5. Look under Device status to see if there’s an error message. Common errors include either Code 43 or Code 28 in the message. Leave the Properties window open in case you need it to fix the problem.

    Post back your results.

Do you have USB 2.0 and did you try USB 2.0?

Many mouses will not work properly in 3.0 even though their specs say they should.
No human can move a mouse fast enough or type fast enough to even use full speed of 2.0 let alone 3.0 speed.

You could also check to make sure the bottom sensor hole of your mouse is clean. I have had dirt get in there and had to blow it out to get the mouse to function properly again.

I'm back. Mouse MS3500 still wobbly. Went into linux - changing the response time etc from slow to fast cured it. Does win7 have fast/slow sliders?
