2 x HDD Show as Incorrect Capacity
Hi - I have two Seagate external drives of 3 and 4 TB capacity each. They are about 12 months old and they operate fine in their own enclosures. I have multiple external drives and decided recently to purchase a 4-bay NON-RAID enclosure. After reading some reviews, I got this Hotway model (called by another name in the US I believe) from PC Case Gear in Australia:
Hotway 4-Bay non-RAID USB3.0/eSATA Enclosure [HF2-SU3S2] - $179.00 : PC Case Gear
It is USB 3 and has a max capacity of 4 x 4TB 3.5 inch drives.
After removing the drives from their enclosures, I slotted them into the Hotway and fired it up. To my astonishment, the 3 TB drive shows only as 349 GB and the 4 TB shows as 465 GB. I rewired them through their original cases and they showed as 3 and 4 TB once more.
I had quite a bit of data on each drive (well over 1.5 TB) and when I plugged the in to the Hotway I received a message that both drives needed formatting. So I copied all the data to another drive before submitting the drives to the format routine but this did not change their size.
Any idea what could be happening here?
