New UPS (Uninterupted Power Supply) emitting a plastic smell?

Got a CyberPower CP1000AVRLCD Intelligent LCD Series UPS 1000VA 600W AVR Mini-Tower that seems to be working fine. But every now and then it gives off some kind of plastic smell. It had this smell when I first took it out of the box and the smell seems to emit every now and then while it's on.

I've touched it to see if it was hot, but it feels quite cool. So it doesn't seem to be overheating or anything.

Could just be the plastic heating up internally for the first time and will go away in a few days, unless you see fluid or it gets very hot (as in overcharging of the batteries) your probably fine.

Call Cyberpower or check their site (chat?) I agree with rvcjew - it's probably just a breaking in period.

But you should confirm that with Cyberpower - they know their product. If the support rep thinks there might be an issue, they'll tell you and probably work through the RMA process. You won't know until you contact them.

I will try to find it, but a report just came out that the UPS, have something that is toxic and it may be noticed by a smell.

    Thanks Rich,

I would remove the power from the UPS until you hear from CyberPower.

There are many things it could be, so best be safe and pull the plug.

The smell in that report was from hydrogen sulfide, which smells like rotten eggs, not plastic. The situation in that report is pretty rare, especially in newer units. I would still check with Cyberpower anyway but I'm reasonably sure the smell is harmless and will go away soon.
