    External harddrive connects than disconects

    Hello there,

Till this afternoon I had no problems with my external harddrive. I started up my computer and I plugged in my external harddrive I could not find it. It did make a connecting sound and after 5 seconds a disconnect sound was heard. I tried to find it in drive manager but it did not show up. Also when I plug/unplug it, it does not show up. Can somebody help me?

    Thank you already

Have you tried checking the manfacturers support page for possible driver updates? I would try that first and give that a shot and see if that helps ya. If not post back and we can take it from there.

I assume you mean from the external hard drive? but should it not give a message that it should update?
I tried to look that up, but nothing shows up, I also tried it with a laptop from my friend and it shows the same.

Just some more information on the drive:
    Seagate
    Expansion portable drive
    Model: SRDOOF1
    1TB

I have been searching some and I found out that the location of the external hardrive is this Port_#0002.Hub_#0006
I do not know what this means, I do have another external harddrive and the location of that one is USB apparatus for mass saving (free translated from dutch, USB voor massaopslag)

Is it possible that the Microsoft Teredo Tunneling adaptar has something to do with it?

fyi... Your usb drive uses the Microsoft disk and usb storage drivers that come with the Windows OS to work as a basic disk. Some vendors have put "extra" features on their external drives. The extras may require an additional driver from the vendor for the extra functionality to work. (WD externals are often like this) But, even then, the extra driver isn't needed to simply use the drive as a disk

See if this helps USB drive or flash problems? How to cleanup and remove old USB storage drivers - TechSpot Forums. Then also try the drive on a different computer to see if the problem is the drive, itself, or the computer

thank you for the info but it does not seem to work, it did try to reinstall the external hard drive but within 5 seconds it still disconnects so there was no time to reinstall it. Is it possible that the cable got broken, or something within the external hard drive that causes this? The light on the drive is flickering so there is power transferred through from the computer trough the cable to the drive. It tried to run it on a friends computer but that gave the same problem.

    Matts6887 and computergeek,

Thank you very much for the help, unfortunately it did not work. I contacted seagate and agreed to send it back to them, there is probably something wrong with the disk itself and not the software. So I hope this will work, again thank you
