Won't boot into windows with 2nd memory slot filled

When I populate slot2 with 512mb noname ddr1 I cannot boot into windows, BIOS comes up ok and memory tests ok. This is intermittent but now almost 90% of the time it won't boot. slot1 contains a 1GB kingston pc3200.

With no ddr in slot2 it boots ok and with a 1GB stick (corsair) it boots ok. I guess it was the noname 512MB stick but seems strange it passed all the memory tests (from ubuntu grub loader)

    MB is an Asus K8S-MX

It's win7 32bit and runs just fine with a decent graphics card and minimal multi-tasking.

I'll try switching them, but suspect it's the no name ram since it now works with a name brand.

Can you post the model of that Computer?
There are some MOBO that comes with 4 slots for RAM, 2 can support ddr and the other supports other type of RAM.
or the 512 RAM of yours is faulty.

It's a homemade PC with an Asus K8S-MX which is 2 slots ddr400.

I tested the 'faulty' 512mb stick for hours w/o any errors - this is what is confusing.

and it did work consistently for 2 years, then the last 2 weeks started not to boot.

    Mexman,

I would suggest you let go of that RAM, everything has an ENDING, everything gets OLD. 2 years of service. not bad.
Try installing new RAM, lets see if the problem still occurs.

Thanks, as I said in the OP, I installed a corsair 1gb stick in the 2nd slot and it has been working ever since.
