Brand new USB 3.0 Flash drive not recognisable
I have looked at many threads on the forums but cannot see any obvious answer so please bear with me ...
I have just bought a new 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive which states that it is compatible with USB 2.0. I have tried plugging it in to the USB 2.0 ports of three different computers with the same results and lack of success. All three seemed to recognise the new device and installed the 'necessary' drivers. If I go in to Start -> Computer, the device shows up as Removable Disk. However, if I right click and show Properties, it shows the file system as unknown and both the Used and Free space as 0 bytes. Double clicking the icon yields a "Please insert a disk into Removable Disk (E:)" message.
I have tried following the thread about using DISKPART to format the device but it stated that there was no media connected.
I bought the USB 3.0 flash drive in order to test the USB 3.0 ports that I have just installed on one of the computers. It gives the same results on those. However, I cannot state for sure whether the USB 3.0 ports work correctly as this is the first USB 3.0 device I have. They do, however, function correctly with USB 2.0 flash drives.
Can anybody help?
Have I simply got a duff USB flash drive? I don't want to return it to the supplier if there is something that I have not done correctly.
Do I need to install some more fancy drivers?
Does it need to be formatted first somehow? How can I if it it is not recognised?
Any help appreciated.
