SDD Showing Fuller All of a Sudden

My 128GB Samsung 840 Pro C: drive has been taking up about 65GB of 119GB formatted space (55GB free space) for the longest time. Recently, it started showing only 38.3GB of free space. When I checked properties in Disk Management, it shows used space is 80.3GB and the free space is 38.7GB.

I downloaded WinDirStat and got the following results:

It's saying the used space of C: is only 69.5GB which is better but that still seems a bit high, although one heck of a lot better than 80.3GB.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing my C:drive to read so high all of a sudden? Btw, the 24.8GB for <Files> is normal. 24GB is the hyberfil.sys file (I have 32GB RAM) and I need Hibernation enabled for my UPS to use to shut down my computer without losing any work in the event of a power outage. The remaining 0.8GB is the pagefile.sys.

TreeSize Free - Quickly Scan Directory Sizes and Find Space Hogs

Try Tree Size Free and see if it gives you a different total or a more useful display.

The typical culprit is space devoted to System Restore, whether you changed it or not. I think I heard that certain anti-virus packages have a way of interfering?

    vssadmin list shadowstorage

Run the above command and see if the results are outlandish.

In WinDirStat options check Show Unknown and see if space is used there.
Check how much space is used for System Restore.
Some people have an issue where Avast increases System Restore usage.

Try WizTree, it may help show where space is being used and they have a portable version
Antibody Software - WizTree finds the files and folders using the most disk space on your hard drive

Nothing significantly different with Tree Size Free.

How do I run the command?

Ok, I checked Show Unknown in WinDirStat and got this:

<Unknown> is the most likely the culprit but what is it and what do I do about it?

At a prompt. Probably has to be run as administrator.

Start button/accessories/command prompt. Right click it to run as admin and paste or type that command in there.

Should show you amount used and amount allocated to System Restore.

You may have to delete some or all of them and see if Avast is acting up?

Tree Size normally shows the system restore points up high in the display when sorted by size. Long strings of alpha-numeric characters under "System Volume Information" as I recall.

The unknown may be the shadowstorage. Run the vssadmin list shadowstorage in an elevated command prompt and look for the Allocated.

    LOL, Ignatz was faster.

Ok, here is what I got:

SDD Showing Fuller All of a Sudden-command.1.jpg

If that is for system Restore, then it is interesting because I shut it off a long time ago.

Yep; using about 11 GB of about 11.5 allocated.

Pound on Avast. Maybe their forums or maybe Google.

It's a known issue and would be my first suspect.

Avast might have turned it on.
Check if it's still turned off.

From what i read on the Avast forum, they say the bug should be fixed in June / July ...
