Fans in a computer should not stop when the system is running.

Which fan stops running in your computer?

Hi Hashir, in Dell laptop you have mentioned fan will work if CPU has reached certain temperature. Most common question is why it is on high setting when laptop is idle. Please could explain your problem or what you are truing to achieve?

If laptop is not in heavy use the CPU will be at about 50C, if you start watching film or play a game the CPU will start to work and produce more heat the fan will turn on. When the temperature drops bellow 50C it will stop working.

    Hello Hashir,

In addition, check your advanced power plan settings to make sure that you have System cooling policy set to Active for both "On battery" and "Plugged in" like below to see if that may help some.

Sorry I made a mistake. I thought we were working with a Desktop.
Do Laptop fans ever turn off when the laptop is in use.

That seem crazy to me because laptops don't cool all that well when the fans do run.

I bet you all can tell I'm not a laptop user.

On my laptop they turn off and on all the time as needed. As the CPU and GPU gets hotter, the fans will run more often or faster.

Well, when the laptop had been running for a while, the fan pretty much stays on low all the time with an occasional boost of speed as needed.

During image backups, I have a fan aimed at the desktop :)
And, my laptops each have an external USB-powered notebook cooling assembly [with a giant fan].
