Mounting an SSD into a 3.5 Tray.

So I have several slots with trays that fit my desktop computer. Regular HDD's mount to these trays without issue. Now I want to mount a 2.5 SSD into one of these trays. Got this 2.5 to 3.5 "adapter" (orange) and no matter how I try mounting it, everything seems backwards
1. The SSD only mounts in the adapter with the pins towards the "handle". (The mounting holes in the SSD align with pins in the adapter, turning it 180 these pins/holes do not align) I think the handle should be in the front???
2. Once the ssd and adapter sit in the tray, there is approx 1/4" gap on either side, yet the adapter looks to have rails on the outside with holes for mounting to something. It came with 4 screws, which do not fit the threads on the SSD nor does it have any threads on the adapter.

If any body uses this kind of adapter, which seem to be quite popular, can you share your experience would appreciate it. The snap in trays seem to be popular with most desktop cases. Tx

Think you will find that this tray adapter was intended to be installed in an internal bay hence the connectors facing the handle.

I tried those adapters and found that just applying double-backed tape to SSD and tray does the job just as well.

I've done this for 5 years and never had a problem.

Are you saying "internal bay" as in a laptop? My Desk top, you remove the side cover and you are presented with a 5 bay housing facing the cover that was just removed. I have seen others where the "opening" is facing the back. On my setup, its seems to want the connectors away from the opening (towards the other side cover) and therefore the handle is just in the way. ??

I am old school and I try to allow plenty of clearance/ventilation top/bottom/sides. But these SSD's are unlike the mechanical HDD's and the heat they put off.

I could, and probably will, but was going thru the exercise of trying to figure what the designer of that tray had in mind. They were $1 each with no pictures of a typical installation, just a 2.5 to 3.5 SSD adapter.

I was referring to a case that has the drives mounted long wise .

I believe this is the mount you have shown. Note the last picture in the gallery showing a hard drive in the mount.
