Is my new Hitachi HDD actually used

    From what I've heard, Hitachi is a step up from WD and Seagate, that's why I bought this one. Plus it carries a 5 year warranty.

    Yeah, Hitachi was rated highest in reliability by a noticeable margin in that study that came out within the last 6 months or so. Some outfit who used thousands of drives at a time in a data center published their findings. Backblaze--that's who it was. Seagate was rated lowest. WD in the middle. I think this was for large drives.

    It's probably less important now for home users than it was 5 years ago as most people are going to SSDs for their boot drives at least. HDD speed matters to a lower percentage of users. And everybody seems to think that HDD reliability in general is less than it was 5 or 10 years ago.
