Cant Format E Drive Old copy of windows seems stuck on it

Never had this problem before, and google seems confusing, When I boot my PC I get a choice of 2 versions of windoews to boot from, only the top option works, but I cant seem to remove the 2nd option, which is annoying as it makes booting up longer.

Today I decided to try and clear up some of my files as computer was messy, Cleared a full drive off all except a few windows files which windows will not let me remove, I have tried formatting and again windows says no, I have been in the disk Management and agaiun windows says no, I cant format or delete the volume,

I am hoping my 2 issues are related, but does anyone know how to solve them without the risk of my computer not turning back on.. Thanks.

You need to change your boot options to not show you the list, right click computer and choose properties then click advanced and follow my picture. If you want to remove the second entry it is is in your boot config and can be done with msconfig but that is more technical so i'll wait for what you want to do. Your disk is probably something different, can you post a pic of your disk management like mine.

EDIT: Added a pic of the tab in msconfig that would show you what it wants to boot.

Hello pitbull69. Welcome to the forum.

A screenshot of your Disk Management window, expanded so we can read everything, would be helpful.

Is disk 0 the one your trying to erase?

EDIT: saw you edited your post, if you uncheck the time to display area then it won't ask you to pick one unless something goes wrong at boot.

Disk Z im trying to erase, I renamed it in the silly hope it would help..

I have now removed the 2nd boot install, so 1 down, and thankj you very much for the advice. I was hoping if that went it would allow me to format, but same thing when I ask it to format,

yeah that's because it is a system partition you must have some underlying files that it is using on that partition or it just sees it has that type of structure. Did that drive come out of another pc? Where did msconfig say your second boot entry was supposed to be did it say Z?

I had a SSD drive before but it failed, so I installed windows on the Z drive, when my SSD got replaced I reinstalled Windows back on there,

Okay do this for us, if you remove that physical disk( Disk 1) when the pc is off will it start and boot into windows or does it not go anywhere without that disk? It sounds like your BCD still thinks the old windows is installed on there as OS 2. Do you have a windows.old folder in that drive?
