SSD installation?

Received SSD drives for my desktop and laptop, replaced 1st on my laptop.

I would appreciate what I need to do for there proper functioning, before installing W7.

Like uncheck W7 defragmentor........do some services need to be tweaked etc??

Should I partition it or give all to W7, since use 40 GB for W7 and apps?

It's WD Black Scorpio 320 GB, put in a usb enclosure and set for data with NTFS file system.

Haven't started W7 on it, wanted to install simultaneously on both but than wont have access to the forums, since shall take some time and its my 1st time with SSDs.

Is it essential to move user folders?

Superfetch is the only service that need to be disabled?

Clarify some things.

You say you received SSD drives for laptop and desktop. Then you say "It's WD Black Scorpio 320 GB."

That's an HDD, not an SSD.

Refer to one machine at a time and tell us what you are generally trying to do.

Normally, you would NOT make more than one partition on an SSD, but you might have a special circumstance. You say 40 GB for Windows and apps, but we don't know which machine you are referring to or the size of the SSD in question.

Do you have intentions of storing data on the SSD? On both machines?

You shouldn't defrag an SSD, but Windows normally turns off defrag on an SSD during installation. You can check that afterwards.

You should confirm proper alignment, but that's normally done correctly during installation. You can later check it.

Generally, the installation procedure is the same as on an HDD. You don't need to tweak anything.

3. 40 GB for W7 and apps on laptop with 4 GB RAM, and with a 120 GB SSD.

4. Shall be storing data on usb HDD on both machines not on SSD.

If the laptop has a 120 GB SSD and you do NOT intend to store any data on that SSD, then I'd just use a single partition on the SSD. You'll end up with about 112 usable C, using 40, with about 72 free for future growth.

An alternative would be to store data on the SSD, possibly in a separate partition, and then use the external for backup. But you may have that covered already or may not want to backup.

Disconnect EVERYTHING but keyboard and mouse before you begin the install. The external drive should NOT be connected.

What about the desktop?
