HP Laptop - Hard Disk Error (3F1)

    Hi all,

A client of mine has an HP laptop. I don't have the exact model, but it came with Windows 7, Beats Audio, and has a 17" display.

I replaced the hard drive about 8 months ago with a solid state drive, a Samsung 840 EVO. Everything has been fine with it since then, but recently, the laptop is giving a Hard Disk Error, Hard Disk 1 (3F1) message on every boot. The user can hit F2 for Diagnostics, and then exit.

Once in Windows, I have ran the Samsung Magician software and no SMART errors are reported and everything is showing up as working normally. Scan Disk finds no problems.

So why does the BIOS think there is an issue?

    Any help would be great.

I would suggest you make sure the drive has the latest Firmware, and run a performance test with Magician. Dee if the results are close to the specs of the drive.
