No display when I start up Pc

    Hello,

I got a pc from a Garage sale, Had some problems with fan not running but I fixed it
Now I need to know why no display is showing.

The pc has no hard drive but I've been told it should go to the bios screen even without one but it doesn't.
I've taken It to a family friend and he said it is because I have no Cpu (I think)

So I am going to check If I actually have one but I need to find out where to check. Around the middle of the motherboard there is a fan (I think it is called a heat sink, I'm still learning) Would my cpu be under there?
If so how do I safely remove the fan to check and also Can I put a Pentium 4 from another pc into it.

If the Cpu is not the problem could you please help me with whatever problem it is

    Thanks, Not A Robot

The CPU will indeed be underneath the cooler, to remove the cooler you just undo the four screws from round the outside of the heatsink and twist it gently until it becomes loose then lift it off. Be aware you'd have to clean off the old thermal compound and reapply new compound before replacing the cooler.

This information may well be useless though as so far we have no idea what hardware you're dealing with. We'd at least need to know the motherboard make/model number and what other hardware is installed in the PC (RAM, graphics card etc) to even start making reasonable suggestion as to what the problem is. Does the motherboard beep when powered up? Whether you could put a different processor in the motherboard depends completely on what the motherboard is, there are numerous different socket types and if the CPU is not compatible (the same socket type) then you can't install it as it won't fit.

A couple of clear photos of what you are looking at would be nice.

    Hello,

My motherboard is a Gigabyte Ga-965p-ds3p
I took off the cooler and looked underneath it, there was a silver cap thing im guessing it protects the cpu or something but I cant take the actual cap off, It looks like it could be taken off its just that I'm a bit of a klutz so I didn't want too touch it. Now that the cooler is off I can't get it back on. As for graphics card I have one that came with it but It's a Gigabyte Gv-NX76G512p-RH and for ram it's DDR2. I took the ram out and put it in my other pc but even with that ram it still didn't work.
I will post pictures soon but I cant do so right now

Ok I'm pretty sure the metal cover thing I was talking about was the actual cpu It just didn't have any writing on it.
