    Strange problem with DVDROM unit

Hi, lets see if someone can help with this bizarre problem..

My version is W 7 ultimate, 64 bits. I have a quad processor, and 2 DVD units. One DVDROM and one RW, the problem is with the first one.

If i insert a video DVD or music or photos..then no problem, DVD unit goes ok.But when i insert a game's DVD to install..it freezes..autorun doesnt execute and if i get to execute an setup, its freeze. BUT, if the same game DVD goes to RW unit, it goes ok...i mean, only fails in DVDROM unit

The weird thing, is that sometimes, after gaming to some game (with the DVD in RW unit), if a put the DVD in the DVROM unit...it reads ok!!

I dont think DVD rom is broken..i think it can be something of driver or...
In hardware i see unit its ok LG DVDROM GDR8164B. I tried with 3 games (originals of course) , and with 3 them...the same problems

When i was with XP, unit doesnt give me any problem with the same game's DVD..it has to be something with w7. (i had another mainboard and processor, but like i have said, DVDROM, randomly, read these DVD. I mean, i dont think could be something about master/slave configuration.

the only thing i cant think, is that problem could be with 8 gby's DVD..i dont know.

    Any idea?

First try taking a cotton swab and some alcohol and cleaning the lens on the drive then dry it with the other end. When you install the game originally and insert the key the game is loaded to your hard drive. Most games run from the hard drive. The only reason you need to insert the disk is to have the drive validate it is a genuine disc and pass the anti piracy software like secure rom, then the rest of the time the game is run off your hard drive. Most games don't stream data from the disc. You might also want to try and update the firmware on your drive by going to the manufacturers site. You may need to reinstall the games as well. I only use my game disk once and that is to install the game i then use Gamejackel pro to create and image of the startup and never need to insert the disk again.

    Hi,

I have desestimated problem with lens because 1 week ago, with XP, the DVDROM works fine, incluiding with the same game's DVD. More, if i insert any DVD with photos, videos,... there isn't any problem..never. Problem is only with DVD game.

With firmware i dont know if would be useful. How i know what firmware i have?.

    Thxs for any suggestion

Well, i have put a thread with my problem.
One thng i have seen executing discinfo is this:

Read speed only 6x?..that is ridiculous, ..the rw unit..is 40x
Question: firmware or maximum read speed shouldn't be apart of operative system?...

New update of the bizarre case

Yesterday, before going to sleep, i execute msconfig and see start programs that are loaded. I quit someones and after restart, 2 of problematic's DVD games, were read without any problem

It was late and i have to do more tests but it could be a solution.
One of the programs i quit was from start was one of PowerDVD..who knows..

I will test and confirm if works definitely or was another chapter of the weird problem.

The firmware is drive related only, as is the read speed. I have had a problem with power dvd 8. With not starting on auto run but will from play from the disc Icon. Yet I don't have any of your problems with any of the games I play. It's nice to see your figuring it out I'll check back. Bizzard it is.

I missed Without powerdvd (and i uninstall Nero by the way)..and problem again is here. Its seems the other day was luck..or something random..

    Argh.

    Again at beginning

Because of my new mainboard, same units are in the same channel, one master, one slave, could be this important?

I think it could be a compatibilty problem:

    - The CDROM unit in another Pc works fine.
    - I try it with an XP live, and unit works fine in my pc (in the pc that has Windows 7 installed and gives me the problem).

I think i will report to microsoft, i think its a compatibilty problem with windows 7
