Asus Z87 MOBO Frozen Bios Clock Issue

Can someone please inform me is this an issue that occurs only when any kind of overclocking is done.
This includes enabling XMP profiles of RAM that has XMP feature.
In other words is there anybody out there who has had frozen clock issue where no overclocking was done.
    Thanks...GAry

GokAy can you tell if you had same problem as described by the links you provided and do you do any overclocking of 'any kind' at all when you may have also had the frozen clock issue.? Thanks Gary

I`ve never had the bios clock freeze up when OCing, how old is the board ? Maybe it needs a new battery.

Please fill in your specs :)

AddRAM are you using an Asus Z87 mobo. How long have you had the board?? This clock freeze issue occurs quite rarely...in my case about 3 times in 18months. Hopefully not but you could have this problem in future.
here are some links that discuss this well known issue:

All you have to do is look at my specs. About 1 month, I just renewed my rig, it was merely a suggestion :)

I have no reason to OC the 4790K, I have all cores synced to Turbo up to 4.4 GHz and it`s working flawlessly.

But my Sabertooth Z77 never had an issue like that in over 2 years OCd

I would just set your memory speed manually and disable XMP.

Asus Z87 MOBO Frozen Bios Clock Issue

Thanks AddRam. This is a known issue with only Asus Z87 and Asus Z97 mobo so the Z77 is free of this issue.
There is no known permanent fix for this problem and Asus deny there is an issue despite the fact there is a definite issue. It is a tricky one. The threads I sent you have tons of info on the problem.

My solution which is not exactly a FIX is just to clear the CMOS...as I need to do this rarely it is not too much of a headache. From what I can gather not OCing reduces its incidence and may even prevent the problem.

Thanks for contacting me and I appreciate that. Feel free to contact me if you encounter the problem as I know tons about it. Gary

I haven`t seen a single thread here claiming there time has frozen up in the bios of an Asus Z87.

Boozad and I both have the Saber Z87, but we also have bios version 2004, and he`s never mentioned to me about any problems like this.
