    Turning the PC by keyboard

    Hello guys,

I have ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. H81-PLUS mobo in my desktop PC. I looked the menus of the BIOS but didn't find some option for turning the system on by pressing a key on keyboard. Has my mobo such an option? If yes, which menu please?

    Thanks.

I have never heard of or seen a keyboard that can power on a PC.

I guess it is possible if you sleep the computer instead of turning off.

See Power Management (or similar) screen in BIOS for power on/wake on keyboard.

I looked the BIOS up more deeply and could find that option. It was disabled by default so I enabled it. Now it works. Thank you guys :)

Could you let us know exactly what that setting in bios states.

Are you trying to start your computer from a cold start or wake up from sleep or hibernation?

From the manual for Franky's motherboard,

Jack just had a look at the manual for your motherboard and it has the same option in the bios (in the APM section). Only real difference between yours and Franky's is yours doesn't specify that it has to be a PS/2 keyboard or mouse (I assume in that case it will work with a USB keyboard or mouse.

depending on where you keep the computer, could be a nice feature to enable. That is unless you have small children, or a cat that likes to walk across the keyboard.

I do have a cat that does like to rub on the keyboard. I use USB keyboards.

I always though that settings was for sleep and not a cold boot.
    Live and learn.

I can't seem to find that setting. Could you post where you found it?

To be honest I thought that was for waking from a sleep as well, I wonder if it will work with USB keyboard (mine say to use a PS/2 as well).

Bear: Check where your power management settings are.

I understand Power Management in Windows 7. I was wondering about this type of setting in bios.

I turn my PC on with an IR Remote. It looks similar to a TV Remote and has all the same functions as a DVR/TV remote but the coding is different so it doesn't interfere with the TV. Even has a mouse built in.

I think what makes power-on available through the keyboard, in the last five years or so, is Standby Power and a hot/live USB port. I've never tried it with a wireless keyboard. Mine doesn't have a power button.
