    HDD Connected to Router

    Hello,

You guys may or may not have an answer for me, but I will try anyway.

I have a Seagate external HDD that behaves like I want it to when connected to my PC; it shuts off after 20 minutes of idling. I recently bought a new router (Linksys wrt1900ac) so I can connect my HDD to it and access files when away from home. When the HDD is connected to the router, it never turns off, it is always spinning.

I looked for similar settings mentioned in this thread on my router's settings, but did not find anything.

Any ideas on what to do? I want my external HDD that's connected to my router to turn off after idling. I know this is a Windows thread, but this below is the closest thread I have found to my problem; I can't find any threads discussing routers.

Hard Drive - Turn Off Hard Disk After Idle or Never

    Thanks.

Unless your router supports such a feature I am not sure if you can achieve it. You can check out WD Green drives, they have a tech called IntelliPower and slow down and turn off when no activity after a while.
