USB 3.0 ports not working after upgrading power supply

First go into BIOS and see if USB 3.0 is disabled there, enable it if so. If enabled, then load defaults in BIOS (either first screen or exit menu).

If still no go, download and make a bootable Linux Mint MATE DVD/USB. Then boot with it and see if USB 3.0 ports are working.

You can also try Safe Mode and another user account - User Account - Create

Hmm, I looked in the BIOS menu, but I didn't see any field labeled USB 3.0 (I only saw ones labeled USB 2.0 and USB Legacy, but the descriptions of those made them sound as if they weren't really on-point). Also, my BIOS menu has an option called Optimized Defaults? I'm assuming that's the same as loading defaults, which is what I did when troubleshooting my last issue. :x Anyway, is there a sticky or link on how to make one of those bootable DVD's?

Yes, optimized defaults would work.

You can get Rufus and load the ISO into it to make bootable USB.
Or get BurnAware | Download Burning Software free for DVD, (get the free one without OpenCandy, link below download buttons, last line of paragraph).

Alrighty, the iso loaded on a bootable USB seems a little easier. I've never used Rufus or booted to Linux before, so I just want to make sure I don't mess anything up. When I use Rufus, are all the default settings fine? I just need to pick my USB drive and then the correct Linux ISO?

Also, are we sure the issue isn't in my BIOS menu? I mean, I don't know what most of the options in my BIOS menu mean and there are a whole lot of sub directories and what not that it could potentially be lurking. I'm guessing you're not familiar enough with the more recent Gigabyte BIOS menus to tell me exactly where to look?

Correct Zibeltor, just select the ISO and the correct USB drive.

I would think the default options in BIOS has USB 3.0 enabled. Do you remember enabling anything in BIOS regarding USB when you first got your motherboard?

I fail to see any USB 3.0 setting in your motherboard's manual.

Okay! I have Rufus copying the iso files now and I'll attempt to boot into linux once it's done. And yeah, that's what I would assume--that USB 3.0 would be enabled by default. I don't remember ever tinkering with BIOS when I got the system.

Another possibility that occurred to me is I had to RMA my motherboard a while back. Are the USB ports powered by just that single big 24 pin, or is it possible I had to connect the USB 3.0 ports individually to the power supply and just kind of forgot to do it?

Alright, well, I just booted into linux (which was interesting), but the USB 3.0 ports still weren't giving power or a connection (using my Galaxy s5 as a test device).

Does that mean it's likely a hardware issue? :/

Hmm, where are the USB 3.0 ports that are not working? Back of PC or front panel of PC case? Back panel doesn't need any additional power/connections but front panel require you plug in the cables to the motherboard.

Doi! I forgot about the ones in the back. Wow, thank you for providing that image though. That made it super easy to check and as I feared, I just forgot to plug them in for the front panel (I think I have four USB 3.0 on the front and two in the back). I'll go ahead and boot into linux again just to make sure that the ones on the back still work and it was just me being forgetful that caused the problem.
